DAR — Delhi Analysis of Rates

DAR stands for Delhi Analysis of Rates — the CPWD publication that shows how each rate in the Delhi Schedule of Rates was arrived at, listing every ingredient the item consumes with its coefficient and basic rate.

What an analysis contains

For one item of work, the analysis lists every input it consumes per unit of output — the coefficient — priced at a basic rate, totalled, with contractor's profit and overheads added to reach the published schedule rate.

  • Materials — cement, sand, aggregate, bricks, steel, and so on, per unit of finished work.
  • Labour — each trade separately, in days.
  • Machinery and plant — priced per day or per hour and multiplied by the fraction used.
  • Carriage — lead and lift, normally left blank because it is station-specific.
  • Sub-analysis — a reference to another analysed item the work consumes, such as mortar.
  • Sundries — small consumables, as a lump sum or a percentage.

Blank carriage lines mean "price this locally", not zero. Treating them as zero understates the analysed rate.

Why the coefficients matter beyond the rate

A coefficient is a quantity per unit of work — how much cement one cubic metre of concrete needs, how many mason-days a square metre of plaster takes. That makes the analysis useful even when the rate is already settled:

  • Multiply coefficients by BOQ quantities to get a material requirement for indenting.
  • Use the labour coefficients to plan gang sizes and programme durations.
  • Check a contractor's consumption claim against the scheduled coefficient.
  • Work out what a change in a material's market price does to a rate.
